When replacing tubing with an old fitting, you can use all of the fitting except the two ferrules.  They have to be replaced.

How to Flute Convoluted Tubing

Cut piece of tubing about an inch longer than needed, then heat end with propane torch until tubing becomes clear and un-convoluted (about a quarter of an inch longer than the insert. Drop the insert in the tubing and let the tubing cool around it by blowing on tubing, then when it starts turning white again drop the end in cool water, then trim off the access tubing.
